U-12 Girls are finalists at Milwaukee Kickers Culver's A/B Select

The Hartford United U-12 girls team took 2nd place at the Milwaukee Kickers Culver's A/B Select tournament held in Milwaukee, WI on May 5-7, 2006. They competed in the "A" Select division along with teams from Milwaukee, Madison and Appleton.

On Saturday afternoon Hartford faced the New Berlin Blazers, who took 1st place at Hartford's own Kick Some Grass tournament held in August. After yielding an early goal, Hartford settled in and kept up the pressure which resulted in a beautiful goal off a perfectly placed cross. Another quick goal followed on a through ball. A 3rd goal from a precision far post shot closed out the game and a 3-1 win. Next up was Middleton Yahara Soccer Coalition. A strong offensive and defensive effort produced a 4-0 victory. On Sunday Hartford faced Whitefish Bay's #1 team. Hartford needed a win or tie to advance to the championship round. Likewise, a win by Whitefish Bay would result in them advancing. The game was very physical as both teams knew what was on the line. The score remained 0-0 for a long time until Hartford scored on a precision strike to the upper corner. Another goal was notched off a full volley deflection from a corner kick. Hartford yielded a goal and the game ended with a 2-1 advancement to the championship round.

The championship round featured a top-notch team from Appleton. Several good early chances by Appleton were thwarted by Hartford's strong defense. An excellent direct kick into the far corner off a foul from 25 yards out gave Appleton a 1-0 lead at halftime. Although Hartford pushed hard in the 2nd half they could not find the equalizer and the game ended 0-1.

Congratulations to all the girls for an excellent weekend of soccer!
