The Hartford United U-12 boys team was accepted to compete in the FC Milwaukee Winter Invite tournament held at the Brookfield Indoor Soccer Complex on March 4-6, 2005. This high-level tournament features top teams from throughout the Midwest. Hartford played very well, with 2 victories and 1 tie, but lost out on a tie-breaker from advancing to the championship.
First up for Hartford on Friday night was a familiar team, FC Milwaukee U-12, which Hartford has played several times both in indoor and outdoor play. A closely played game ended in a 6-6 draw. On Saturday morning Hartford faced the CIS (Central Illinois Select) team. This game was dominated by Hartford and resulted in a winning score of 8-3. Sunday featured another top team from Illinois, Trevian Blue. The game was very physical and Hartford battled to a 3-1 lead. A late goal given up by Hartford proved to be costly because even though Hartford won 3-2, this cost them the tie-breaker in pool play against FC Milwaukee. Thus, FC Milwaukee advanced to the championship game.
